Iron Butt

Well as you can imagine, 1000 miles in 24hrs was going to be a hard one, not for the bike, cos i knew she would make it, but for my butt, as riding that long on a bike for that amount of time, something was going to be sore. To be very honest i was well looking forward to it, doing something that i enjoy, and more importantly raising money for a worthwhile charity, the poppy.

I set off at 8.30 saturday morning, with the intention of riding north up to Wick, but changed my mind at the last minute, and ended up riding south to Redruth. Our first stop was to a service staion of the M1, and bumped into a couple of squaddies from the rifles, seemed appropiate to hav a pix taken with them, as what we were doing was, in a way something to do with them. After that we just got our heads down and made our way to Dover. Then we made our way along the coastal routes until we arrived at Redruth.

Having rode for a good 11 hrs and travelled roughly 650 miles, we still knew we had a fair old ride left to do, and at times thought we’d never get to squires in the cut of time. By now it was getting dark, but thankfully there was very few cars on the road, so progress was very good. Darkness soon turned to light and at 4.55 sunday morning, the sight of squires was a very welcoming sight to tired eyes and a very very achy butt. Hope the rblr can sort another out for next year, as my name will defo be first on the list.

Footnote by Jax, the Chair DTDMCC
Well done to Huw and all the riders in the Iron Butt. Dick Turpin’s Disciples Mcc sponsors this event and also fully supports the RBL Riders. Great effort to all concerned.
